One of the biggest lessons from my recent self-imposed pause? Your inner guidance system is always working.
Always.
I know it, yet I wasn’t turning to it. I wasn’t journaling, or setting time to listen. Still, it was sending signals.
It whispers before it shouts.
It nudges before it pushes.
And when we ignore it for too long, life has a funny way of slowing us down long enough to make us pay attention.
That inner voice is not here to punish you.
It’s here to guide you back to yourself.
During my pause, I realized how often we ignore our intuition, and override ourselves.
We stay in routines that no longer fit.
We carry expectations that were never ours.
We keep pushing through exhaustion because we think slowing down means failure.
Meanwhile, our inner guidance keeps whispering:
“This isn’t working anymore.”
“You need rest.”
“You’re meant for more joy than this.”
“You don’t have to abandon yourself to keep everyone else comfortable.”
How can you tell if your intuition is trying to tell you something? Sometimes it looks or feels like this:
- feeling emotionally heavy for no obvious reason
- losing excitement for things that once inspired you
- craving quiet and solitude
- feeling drawn toward creativity, nature, stillness, or change
- sensing deep down that a new version of yourself is trying to emerge
How to Make A Stronger Connection to Your Intuition
Create silence
Intuition struggles to compete with constant noise.
If every quiet moment is filled with scrolling, television, podcasts, notifications, or overthinking, it becomes difficult to hear yourself clearly.
Even 10 quiet minutes helps.
Sit outside.
Go for a walk without your phone.
Drive without music sometimes.
Journal before bed.
Pay attention to your energy
Your intuition often communicates through expansion or contraction.
Some things make you feel lighter, calmer, energized, inspired.
Others make you feel heavy, tired, anxious, resentful, or emotionally flat.
Those reactions matter.
Your body is often delivering messages before your mind understands them.
Notice repetition
If the same thought, dream, desire, idea, or feeling keeps returning, there’s usually a reason.
Especially if it continues over weeks or months.
Intuition repeats itself gently until we listen.
Ask questions — then pause
Instead of forcing answers, ask quietly:
“What do I need right now?”
“What am I avoiding?”
“What would feel more aligned?”
“What is trying to emerge in my life?”
Then stop chasing the answer. The answer may come during a walk, while in the shower, or journaling. I’ve received clarity during conversations, or in the middle of an ordinary moment.
Watch for synchronicities
Sometimes guidance arrives through repeated themes:
- hearing the same message multiple times
- books appearing at the right moment
- conversations confirming what you already felt
- opportunities opening unexpectedly
- strong emotional reactions that seem meaningful
Not every coincidence is magical, but some moments feel deeply aligned for a reason. That’s exciting!
Stop dismissing yourself
One of the biggest blockers to intuition is self-doubt.
We receive the nudge… then immediately explain it away.
“I’m overreacting.”
“It’s probably nothing.”
“I should be grateful.”
“I can handle it.”
“It’s unrealistic.”
Meanwhile, our deeper self keeps whispering the truth.
The more you honour your own feelings, the clearer the messages become. Your inner wisdom speaks best in stillness.
Are you creating enough silence to hear it? What has your inner guidance been trying to tell you lately?
