I’ve been living with a simple belief for a while now: good things are always happening to me.
Not because every day is perfect.
Not because life is free of challenges.
But because I’ve learned to notice.
Each night, when the house grows quiet and the day finally loosens its grip, I lie in bed and take inventory—not of what went wrong, but of what went right. Sometimes the list is obvious.
- A meaningful conversation, the kind that gives me new insight.
- A special moment with my grandkids.
- A discount at my favourite restaurant even though I’m not yet 65 years old. Does mean I look older than my age? Who cares, I got a discount and that makes me giggle.
Other nights, the good things are quieter.
- A series of green lights when I was running late.
- A warm cup of tea that really warmed me up.
- The absence of stress or worry.
I list them anyway because I believe that attention changes everything.
What we choose to look for begins to look for us in return.
After I’ve gathered the good from the day that’s ending, I turn my attention forward. I think about the good things that are coming—some I know about, others I simply trust are on their way.
You know how some people are good at predicting how some scenarios will turn out, because they’ve seen it all before? I do that too, but with a positive spin.
I don’t focus on the details, but instead, I focus on the feeling.
How I’ll feel when these good things arrive. Like Christmas. Plans are made, but everyday I feel how happy the children will be, how relaxed we will be opening presents, sipping coffee. How good the egg bake will taste. I know we will have to get ready for company, but I already feel everyone will be so helpful, and we will get things ready as we chat and enjoy each others company.
I feel the lightness of everyone’s mood and the ease of it all coming together.
I like to let myself feel it early. It’s not wishful thinking, but more like an expectation, like a form of alignment. If I assume it will be fun, why wouldn’t it? It always goes my way, and I always enjoy it, so why wouldn’t it be any different?
There’s something powerful about going to sleep anchored in appreciation and expectation—about resting in the belief that life is working with you, not against you.
Good things don’t only happen in the big moments. They happen in the noticing.
In the way we close one day and open ourselves to the next.
So tonight, I’ll do it again.
I’ll name the good that found me today – like the fun car ride with Isabelle, the good news at the doctors appointment and how great my chicken stew turned out.
And I’ll welcome the good that’s still on its way like how my face will be hurting from smiling lovingly at my grandson singing in his recital, the satisfying game of cards with my friends that makes me happy whether I win or lose, and having a good night’s sleep because I am getting over my cold.
Because good things are always happening to me and the more I notice, the more true it becomes.

Good things are always happening to me.
I notice them.
I receive them.
I trust what’s unfolding.
Even when plans change, I am okay.
Even when life surprises me, I adapt.
I go to sleep grateful for what found me today
and open to the good that’s already on its way.

You just reminded me of a daily practice to start up again.
Things are always working out for me
Appreciating the good moments of my day
Setting my good intention for the next.
