Ahhh summer! We wait all year for the days to grow longer and the sun to shine brighter. I have always looked upon summer as the perfect opportunity to not only rejuvenate our bodies but also to revitalize our spirits. We don’t often think of it, but part of looking refreshed after summer vacation isn’t just because of the tan or that well-rested look. Achieving that enviable summer glow isn’t just about the right skincare routine or diet; it’s also about nurturing our inner selves.
Of course the opportunity to sleep in, or meditate and enjoy some downtime away from others is what we all look for from our summer and self-care is important but what we do with others plays a big part to getting refreshed. Our energy is profoundly influenced and fed by our connections to others in several ways. Therefore, these connections whether with family, friends or even strangers plays a crucial role in shaping our well-being. We are meant to develop new friendships, and support each other. Summer is when more of us venture out of our homes, and join others whether its building a deck, or helping someone move. We are meant to be there for each other, and that is a big part of the energy that feeds our glow.

The Glow of Connection
Consider that every person emits a unique energy signature, a blend of emotions, thoughts, and intentions that create an intangible aura. Think of it as your personal energy cloud, constantly in flux based on your experiences, feelings, and interactions. This energy is not confined within the physical boundaries of your body; it extends outward, influencing and interacting with the energies of others.
That explains why human connection is a fundamental aspect of our well-being. Engaging with others not only enriches our lives but also enhances our energy field, and our emotional and mental health. We are inherently social creatures, and our need to connect with each other is deeply rooted in our biological and psychological make up.
Over the years, I have observed how others can influence the energy in the room. I have also reflected on how emotional support, shared joy, intellectual stimulation and physical presence all contribute to our overall vitality. Our connections with others form a dynamic web that continuously feeds our energy in various ways.
“You are energy, and energy cannot be created or destroyed. Energy just changes form. And that means You! The true essence of You, the pure energy of You, has always been and always will be. You can never not be.”
― Rhonda Byrne
By nurturing these connections and being open to te energy they provide we can enhance our well-being and our sense of purpose and even our resilience. Be mindful of the opportunities around you.
- Mutual Learning and Growth – Interacting with others and even just being observers exposes us to diverse perspectives, experiences and knowledge, broadening our understanding of the world and enriching our personal development. My husband and I loved partaking in people watching, being casual observers of the comings and goings of people around us in our travels, in coffee shops, and on the street. Even if we did not know them, in that moment we were sharing in their experience and often, it made us reflect on our own behaviours or potential actions.
- Fostering Meaningful Relationships – When spending quality time with friends and family such as summer picnics, beach trips, or barbecues, we knew we were not only enjoying each other’s company. Those shared experiences on the annual camping trips with friends and family created lasting memories and deepened bonds. It is these bonds that bring a sense of safety, and build trust, letting us know that there are a few people we can rely on during harder times.
- Joining a Community – Whether it’s a local club, a volunteer group, or an online forum, finding a community with shared interests can provide a sense of belonging and support. When we were new to a community, we joined the local Optimist Club and it brought us much more than we ever anticipated. Beyond the camaraderie and lasting friendships, engaging with like-minded individuals inspired us. The collective effort and the pooling of diverse skills and perspectives can lead to more effective problem solving, and innovation and that in itself leaves you with an incredible surge of positive energy. It can leave you not only with a glow, but an actual bounce in your step!
- Inspiration and Role Models – Connecting with inspirational people or role models can be incredibly energizing. These individuals can provide guidance, share their experiences and offer valuable insights that can motivate us to strive for personal and professional growth. Their achievements and attitudes can inspire us to time higher and work harder.
- Acts of Kindness – Engaging in acts of kindness and altruism towards others can significantly boost your energy. Helping others, volunteering or simply being kind creates a positive feedback loop of happiness and satisfaction. Knowing that we’ve made a difference in someone else’s life gives us a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
