I participated in a seminar this weekend that I had long been wanting to attend.
The idea of attending came about 3 years ago, then over the last two years it slowly moved from the “wishing for it someday” stage to the “planning to make it happen” stage. Once I firmed up the intention this year and decided I would attend one that was most convenient for me to get to, the opportunity presented itself to me immediately.
Hence, a spring weekend trip to New York’s stunning Hudson Valley for a memorable and inspiring experience with a like minded companion transformed my wish into reality. Once a part of the Northeast’s Industrial past, the Hudson Valley is now known for the string of charming small towns that line the river, and the majestic nature that surrounds them.

A complete trip to the area should include plenty of nature-gazing, shop-hopping and art-ogling and I added it to the list of weekend getaways I would like to try, in the fall. We drove through upper NY state and I could already envision how colourful the tree covered mountainous terrain must be in autumn.
I enjoy new experiences. It stimulates my curiosity, and renews my desire to participate in life around me. Taking a weekend trip becomes a lesson in geography and history. I marvel at the landscape, and the architecture displayed in the region. I get a small sense of the socio-economic conditions of the area. Most of all, I meet other friendly humans, and that in itself is worth the trip.
I walked into the seminar room without any expectations. I was familiar with the format and how the next four hours would play out. As far as I was concerned, I was already so satisfied by the truly enjoyable journey to White Plains, NY, and pleased with the hotel where the event was being held and thrilled to actually be at the seminar that had been on my To-Do list for so long, that I desired nothing more. When the presenter appeared on stage, my moment was complete, and I settled into my seat to enjoy the afternoon,

Within 10 minutes, I got caught up in the excitement, wrapped in the positive energy from people around me and the presenter’s words. I listened to her interaction with the participants and their words resonated with some ideas and thoughts I had recently had, and conversations that were still fresh in my mind. I liked that we were all interested in personal growth, and how to gain insights into the barriers we were putting around us that prevented us from reaching our full potential.
Introspection has been guiding my own personal growth journey, but hearing about someone else’s experiences offers new perspectives and insights that I may not have considered before. On many occasions this weekend, what I heard either validated my own feelings and experiences, and even helped me see my own challenges in a different light.
Trying new things challenges our mind and keeps our brain active, preventing stagnation and complacency. Stepping out of my comfort zone and attending this seminar gave me a boost of confidence and self-esteem. Every time I accomplish something new, it reinforces the belief in my abilities and resilience. It sets my soul soaring and gives me those good vibes!
Speaking of Soaring Soul and Vibes, I am even more determined to continue with my efforts to self-publish tools that promote personal growth through gratitude, positivity, introspection, and meditation. The people I interacted with this weekend had many success stories and positive outcomes, because they chose to change, or pursue dreams. Experimenting with new activities helps you discover passions and interest you many not have known you had. It opens doors to new hobbies, career paths, and avenues for personal fulfillment. I know it’s possible for everyone.
I will leave you with this piece of advice.
“Calibrate to your own power, to your inner guidance system.”
– Abraham Hicks
You are equipped with a perspective that is highly attuned to who you are. I often describe it as a knowing (as in a certainty). But the trust in that knowing gets eroded over time as we allow the belief of others to make us feel not worthy. Introspection, and meditation helps connect you to that inner guidance and that is why it is so important that you do it.
