There’s something quite magical about standing before a place that has witnessed thousands of years of human history. Whether you connect with its ancient mysteries, its spiritual energy, or simply the wonder of how it was built, it’s one of those places that invites you to pause and take it all in.

It’s been a goal of mine to visit Stonehenge, the world renowned ceremonial and sacred landscape of stones arranged in a circle founding Salisbury, UK – and I found myself there, this week just after the autumn equinox.
Experts have offered many explanations for its creation. It may have been spiritual because it marked the movement of the sun. It may have been a place of healing because people believed the stones themselves were sacred. It may have brought people together precisely because they shared those beliefs.
“Some places don’t just show us the past. They awaken something within us.”
— Soaring Soul and Vibes
While I toured the site, absorbing the calm energy around me, my intuition spoke to me. If you know me at all, you know that I enjoy finding meaning in the world around me, so, when a magpie approached me, I focused on what thoughts came to me in that moment, as if it might be delivering a message to me.

Imagine it for a moment: me, with the ancient stones in the background, that have witnessed thousands of years, and a magpie—with its striking black-and-white feathers—appearing as a little messenger in my day.

In spiritual and symbolic traditions, magpies are often associated with curiosity, intelligence, communication, opportunity, and the balance of light and dark. If we treat this encounter as a personal symbol rather than a prediction, here’s the message I retained.
The Magpie’s Message for me at Stonehenge
“Dear soul, you have come to a place of ancient wisdom, but remember—the wisdom you seek is already within you.
Like my black and white feathers, your life holds both shadow and light. Neither diminishes the other. Both are part of the beauty of your journey.
Today, I remind you to trust what calls to you. Follow your curiosity. Notice the little signs that make your heart pause. Not everything meaningful arrives with a grand announcement. Sometimes, it is simply a bird crossing your path.
You are not here to become someone else. You are here to remember who you truly are.
And above all, dear soul, do not wait for another lifetime, another season, or another sign to embrace the joy that is yours to live today.
The stones may be ancient, but your spirit is still becoming.”
Yes, she had a lot to say that little magpie.

I genuinely felt a change in my inner state while at Stonehenge. That may have been a sense of peace, heightened awareness, emotional release, inspiration, or spiritual connection.
The explanation: There isn’t established scientific evidence that Stonehenge emits a special healing frequency or that its stones directly balance chakras or alter a person’s vibrational energy.
But the absence of scientific proof for a specific energy mechanism doesn’t mean you have to dismiss what I felt. Awe, powerful surroundings, personal meaning, and quiet reflection can all shape how we experience a place.

And sometimes, the meaning of an experience isn’t in proving exactly why it happened. It’s in noticing what it opened up within you.
Bonus Episode
In my world, the Universe often shows a sense of humour and my story isn’t complete without telling you what happened next.
Just as I am in full “magpie message mode”, I literally get hit on the head by a wayward bobble wand, dangled by a passing tour guide.
I cannot make this up! Here I was, having a moment of profound spiritual clarity at Stonehenge, feeling peaceful, empowered, aligned with my path…
And WHACK! Someone’s plastic-bobble wand unintentionally delivers a cosmic bonk to the head!
The universe apparently has a wicked sense of humour.
The irony? There are SO many messages here! What do you think?
1. “Stay grounded, darling.”
You’re connecting with ancient Earth energy, feeling your vibrations rise… and life gives you a very literal reminder to keep your feet on the ground.
2. “You know your path—but watch what’s coming up behind you!”
You can trust your intuition, know who you are, and follow your own direction. But apparently, situational awareness is still required.
3. “Don’t take enlightenment too seriously.”
You were having this beautiful, soul-expanding moment, and then life interrupted with a plastic-bobble bonk. A reminder that you can be spiritual, empowered, and still laugh at the ridiculousness of being human.
My favourite interpretation, though?
“I went to Stonehenge to align my energy, trust my path, and embrace my higher self. The universe said, ‘Absolutely, darling. But first, DUCK!’”
Honestly, I think the best part of this story is that I felt empowered before I got bonked. The bonk didn’t take that away.
And perhaps today’s real spiritual lesson is this:
“You can be deeply connected to your soul and still get whacked by somebody else’s fairy wand.”
That’s not a spiritual setback. That’s a story I’ll be laughing about for years.
