Having a hobby is one of the ways you can invite joy in your life. That’s because engaging in activities you love contributes to a sense of joy and fulfillment, and can be a great stress reliever.
I like creative hobbies, like making gemstone jewelry, and in the past, I used to be an avid scrapbooker. Creative hobbies stimulate the mind and foster imaginative thinking. I also enjoy how hobbies provide me with a sense of accomplishment which has a positive impact on my mental well-being.
“To be really happy and really safe, one ought to have at least two or three hobbies, and they must all be real.”
-Winston Churchill

“It can be coins or sports or politics or horses or music or faith… Passion and satisfaction go hand in hand, and without them, any happiness is only temporary, because there’s nothing to make it last.”
― Nicholas Sparks
Looking through my husbands things the other day, I was reminded how he enjoyed collecting coins, often commemorating a special Canadian event or milestone. It was a hobby that paired nicely with his deep passion for history and heritage. He often would gift us with a coin, that secretly he wished for his collection. The memory makes me smile, and I wish I would have remembered more often to contribute to his collection. It would have brought him a lot of joy…maybe more than the cologne I usually gave him….maybe… because he sure did like to smell nice.
