Amidst all of the holiday traditions, gift exchanges, and festive meals, we find the essence of Christmas in the connections.
The holidays are when we make time for others. It’s also an opportunity to pause, reflect, and honour the intricate web of relationships that make life meaningful. In the hustle of the holidays, we look to celebrate and nurture these connections.
It is a season of togetherness. Whether we’re gathered around a dinner table, exchanging heartfelt gifts, or sharing memories by the fire, it’s our relationships that make the holiday meaningful.

For the next twenty-four days, the Vivi Vibes Advent blog will explore ways we can honour this connection to others, with our planet and with ourselves.
After all, during the holiday busyness, it’s easy to lose sight of our inner self. Yet Christmas is also a time of reflection—a moment to reconnect with our values, our peace, and our joy.
Connection With Others
I want to explore with you some of the ways we can honour our connection to others. How can we reach out to loved ones? We know that often, it is the simple acts of reconnecting with a relative or distant friend that can re-ignite bonds.
I have an aunt who I love dearly and enjoy the long talks we have. She turned 90 last year. She lives alone, with the support of two sons very close by. I see her once or twice a year, but I think of her everyday. She lives less than an hour away. I could call her more often, and I make a point of visiting her around her birthday (coming soon). These are the kind of meaningful relationships I am thinking about. The relationship means so much to me, so why am I not visiting more often?
Offering a helping hand to some who may be struggling this season or throughout the year is a frequent message heard at this time of year, and it is also a meaningful way of having connection.
Simply being present, to listen and engage wholeheartedly with the people around us, can make a difference and keep us connected with others . The joy of Christmas lies not in the presents we give but in the presence we share.

What about connecting with our planet?
“When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world “
– John Muir
The Christmas season often brings an excess of consumption, but it also offers a chance to reconnect with the Earth that sustains us. From snowy landscapes to evergreen forests, Canada is blessed to have a glorious backdrop for the holiday season. Nature plays an integral role in creating the magic of the season. How can we give back to Earth, other than spending time in nature to appreciate it? Can we find/create traditions that focus on the experience over materialism, to reduce our negative impact on the planet
Honouring the planet reminds us that we are caretakers of this shared home, responsible for preserving its beauty for future generations. I want to explore ways we can do more of it this year.
Most importantly is connecting with yourself
Amid the holiday busyness, it’s easy to lose sight of your inner self. Yet Christmas is also a time of reflection—a moment to reconnect with your values, your peace, and your joy.
Take a break, and breathe. How can we find ways to embrace moments of quiet amidst the chaos? When we take a few moments to be thankful, it brings a deeper fulfillment.
I wish to explore ways we can honour our connection with ourselves. Doing things that make us happy but also reflecting on the year gone by through journaling, meditation and quiet moments. What were the challenges we overcame, the lessons it brought us and what achievements were realized?. Its important to always honour the person you are becoming.
By caring for yourself, you create a stronger foundation for nurturing your connections with others and the world.
How wonderful it is that we are all interconnected
This year, Christmas reminds me of our interconnectedness. Those who enjoy this season do so because they make it meaningful – through their connections with others, with the planet, and ourselves. Thats what makes it a season of love that transcends differences and unites us in a shared celebration of hope and generosity.
I find it remarkable that by strengthening our bonds with others, caring for our planet, and nurturing our inner selves, we honour the true spirit of the season.
I will be devoting the next twenty-four days to exploring this with you. Whether it’s reaching out to someone in need, treading more lightly on the Earth, or finding a moment of stillness within, every act of connection can enrich our lives.
This Christmas, let’s celebrate the gift of connection—and let it guide us into the new year with hearts full of love and purpose.
“We are all interconnected—how can you honor your connection to others today?”
