The disappearance of worry
A few weeks ago, I came to the realization that I had not had my mind occupied by worry for some time. What a surprise that was to me, as someone who always got caught it unnecessary angst and fretting over the smallest things.. I used to get so worked up about things I could not control, and would lie awake for hours thinking about concerns, that were honestly none of my business.
It occurred to me that through the work I have been doing with meditation and journaling and other personal growth practices, I have learned to eliminate most anxieties from my everyday life and it’s why I find myself in such a peaceful, content state.
Still the skeptic, I felt I needed to test out my theory, so I set about trying to find something I could worry about, with focused intention. Nope! I couldn’t conjure up anything! I have all that I need, I know everything always works out for me. Politics? I pay no mind to it. The weather? Hey, que sera sera! It’s like I am protected by a shield of Teflon or something akin, that prevents any negative thoughts from sticking. I could feel them literally bounce off me. I have to say, that is a very cool side effect of meditation and one more reason to focus on positivity and gratitude!
Ask yourself “What benefit comes from worry? If you’re angry, upset, disappointed, or unhappy, who is the one really suffering?”. Practicing mindfulness enables us to create space between situations and how we respond to them. Asking yourself this question helps recognize the potentially harmful or limiting effects of worrying, or harbouring negative thoughts. Consider more constructive alternatives instead.

Trending: Health at home
The COVID-19 pandemic made at-home testing kits a household item. As the pandemic has kind of normalized and moved into its endemic phase, consumers are expressing greater interest in other kinds of at-home kits: 26 percent of global consumers are now very interested in testing for vitamin and mineral deficiencies at home, 24 percent for cold and flu symptoms, and 23 percent for cholesterol levels.
At-home diagnostic tests are appealing to consumers because they offer greater convenience than going to a doctor’s office, plus they offer quick results, and the ability to test frequently. In China, 35 percent of consumers reported that they had even replaced some in-person healthcare appointments with at-home diagnostic tests—a higher share than in the United States or the United Kingdom.
Although there is growing interest in the space, some consumers express hesitancy. In the United States and the United Kingdom, top barriers to adoption include the preference to see a doctor in person, a perceived lack of need, and price; in Canada, the lack of family doctors creates more support for at home testing, but there is a concern for test accuracy for approximately 30 percent of consumers.
Implications for companies: Companies can address three critical considerations to help ensure success in this category. First, companies will want to determine the right price value equation for at-home diagnostic kits since cost still presents a major barrier for many consumers today. Second, companies should consider creating consumer feedback loops, encouraging users to take action based on their test results and then test again to assess the impact of those interventions. Third, companies that help consumers understand their test results—either through the use of generative AI to help analyze and deliver personalized results, or through integration with telehealth services—could develop a competitive advantage.
More Focus
A recent study reported that most adults report experiencing mental blocks and difficulty concentrating at least 3-5 times a week and more people are feeling distracted when working from home, If this is happening to you, here are five simple tricks to help you regain focus.
- Take a Break: Sometimes stepping away from your task for a few minutes can help clear your mind and reset your focus.
- Set Clear Goals: Break your work into smaller, manageable tasks with clear objectives. This can help you stay focused by giving you a roadmap to follow.
- Eliminate Distractions: Identify and remove any distractions in your environment, such as turning off notifications or finding a quiet workspace.
- Use the Pomodoro Technique: Work in short bursts of focused activity, typically 25 minutes, followed by a short break. This can help maintain your concentration over time.
- Stay Organized: Keep your workspace tidy and organized to minimize distractions and help you stay focused on the task at hand.
